R.I.S.E. WORDS: Day 8: A NEW TWIST ON THANKSGIVING: GIVE TOTAL THANKS
Today Give Total Thanks; Express Complete Gratitude. Be in a Gratitude State of Mind for the people, places, things and experiences of your life--those past, present, and yet to show up. And here's a new and challenging twist, give thanks for everything --good and "bad". Gratitude is a transformative state of mind that seeks and finds "the Good" in everything, then attracts and magnifies more Good to itself.
Now R.I.S.E. and REALIZE (your) INHERENT SELF-EXCELLENCE. Live by Design and Not By Default!! BarryJ
OK folks, this one begs some further explanation:
Thanksgiving in America is a deeply rooted tradition in which most of us consciously recognize and express gratitude and appreciation for the people, things and circumstances in our lives. And we tend to focus on that which we have already experienced. Furthermore our gratitude is generally reserved for those past and present things which we have named or experienced as good, pleasant, fun or otherwise desirable. And, of course, we should give thanks for the obviously "good" that has been or is presently in our lives. However, I believe that in the process of living the good life, life by design, there is great value in expanding our notion and practice of Thanksgiving along at least 2 lines of thought:
1st: Give thanks for people, things, circumstances, experiences, and gifts of life that are yet to come. It's not just about the past and the present. This is a powerful practice in our goal of living life by design and not by default. The notion of Giving Thanks in Advance invites us to imagine (to design in mind) what we want to come into our lives beyond today. And giving thanks for our visions and deeper desire for our future sets in motion expectation, passion, intent, belief, faith and action which together move us from merely imaging and imagining to having, being and experiencing!!!
2nd: Give thanks for ALL the people, things, circumstances, and experiences of your life--even the ones that we didn't or don't name as good, as pleasant, as fun or otherwise desirable. Yep, we should give thanks even for that which we name as bad, tough, crazy, disappointing and otherwise UNDESIRABLE. Illogical? Yes. Counter-intuitive? Yes. Difficult? Exceedingly. But valuable in creating and maintaining a fulfilled life, the good life. Here's why. Into every life comes the undesirable; it's a factual, inescapable part of the gift of life. But the illogical truth is that "Good" is an inherent part of everything in creation. The Creator, God, Life, Universe Good doesn't have an off switch and doesn't skip situations, circumstances, people, places or things ever. To see the Good in all things requires a shift in perspective and mind set ---a shift to a higher level of "possibility thinking" and optimism, and deep knowing that has within it a power to see beyond the surface and find the good in all things, however tiny or hidden it may be. From this level we can see and experience the "blessings of adversity" and grow and excel even from the most challenging of people, situations and things. A spark of Good can ignite a fire storm of Greatness and Abundance.
So this Thanksgiving: Give Total Thanks as you move threw the process of Living Life by Design and Not By Default
